No 18 Queen Street
  From 1772 until the beginning of the 20th century, this property and the three adjacent were in the ownership of the Wayth family, a wealthy family of merchants and Master Mariners. The estate consisted of four substantial houses fronting onto Queen Street, one of which was occupied by members of the family, the others mortgaged to tenants. Behind the houses was a common yard which stretched most of the way along Pinkney's Lane, containing wash houses, fish houses, toilets and a rubbish dump. 1966
Christopher Rowan-Robinson opens 'Pinkneys' sports equipment shop this year. In recent years he has been running a school in Yorkshire but before that, he owned the Sole Bay Bookshop at No 82 High Street. Soon after starting 'Pinkneys' he also opens a small, second-hand bookshop in the Pinkney's Lane corner of the same address (ie to the right of the shop front).
